About the client
The Health Equity Compact is a group of 85+ health leaders of color in Massachusetts working to defend health equity programs under attack by the federal government.
The challenge
Racial health inequities cost Massachusetts an estimated $6 billion a year, and the life expectancy gap between Roxbury and Back Bay is 23 years. With federal cuts looming, the Compact needed a strong message and visibility for its summit at the JFK Library and for An Act to Advance Health Equity.
What we did
CAMI interviewed board members to shape the message, ran a PR campaign around the summit and legislation, and created social content to carry those wins across LinkedIn and X.
How it came together
- 01
Messaging research
Board interviews shaped the campaign message, "Time to double down on health equity."
- 02
Supportive messaging
Coordinated quotes from the Governor's, Speaker's and Senate President's offices.
- 03
Media placements
Close to 20 mainstream and ethnic media hits, including a Boston Business Journal op-ed and a supportive Boston Globe editorial.
- 04
Diverse surrogate voices
Compact members carried the message through op-eds, interviews and social posts.
- 05
Pushing wins forward
Member communications, legislative advocacy and social media support turned coverage into credibility and growth.
"Massachusetts has the best health care system in the country, but we need to ensure that everyone in our state can access it. Today, I feel encouraged by the work of the Health Equity Compact to bring more equity and affordability to all people across Massachusetts."
Gov. Maura Healey, quote secured for the HEC press release (6/11/25)
The work

The impact
The bill advanced through a key committee with more than 30 individuals and organizations testifying in support, and the Compact grew its membership, following and donations when it needed them most.
